Labor Exchange Program

Wanted: Outdoor Enthusiasts



If you are an outdoor enthusiast, and wouldn't mind spending a part of your summer or other seasons at Buffalo Gap Camp in scenic Capon Bridge WV, we would welcome you.
(Must be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by a responsible adult)

We are seeking current and future friends to be a part of our Labor Exchange program, and to volunteer a couple of hours of work per day
in exchange for free accommodations, free healthy meals, with lots of fun events and activities around camp and around the Cacapon River valley in Capon Bridge, WV.

What we have to offer you:
  • Weekly or weekend rotations (1 or many consecutive)
  • Monthly or seasonal rotations (up to 3 months, 6 months, or longer)
  • Currently no income, however income opportunities for greater or skilled labor contributions may be possible.
  • Free lodging in dormitory cabins, some with private / semi-private rooms
  • Free meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, camp fire foods & snacks -- lots of healthy foods and fresh in-season fruits and veggies)
  • Free attendance of many workshops, festivals, concerts and large events hosted at the Camp
  • Develop friendships with staff and other volunteer camp members and seasonal campground guests.
  • Weekday (slow time) excursions, including scenic hikes and river fun and visiting places nearby (see link: 40 Amazing Places within 40 miles)
  • Free internet / wi-fi use / long distance telephone / and other benefits
  • Educational: learn to identify local plants, flowers, trees, and creatures (salamanders, moths, fish...) - and learn some basic survival skills.
  • On-site -- lake with beach, wood-fired sauna, campfires, bon-fires, tubing, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, concerts, hiking trails, creeks, streams, and lots of great people...

What we ask of you:
  • Give us several hours of help / work per day (aided and supervised when appropriate)

  • Jobs may include stone trail lining, stone fire pit lining, campsite debris clearing, new campsite creation, some yard work, cabin housekeeping (cabin and facilities cleaning), painting, and other unusual and fun projects


Time Schedule:
Seeking participants all seasons of the year, particularly the early spring pre-opening and high summer season. You may select to only participate for one week or weekend, week to week, or many consecutive weeks or even months.
You may leave at any time if you get homesick or if you are ready to return to your regular urban or other life.
